Dens and Secret Spaces

Dens and Secret Spaces

Secret spaces are so important in children’s play. Creating an enabling environment for children to lead their own learning allows personal development, builds confidence and meets the needs of all children.
“A den is the child’s chance to create a home away from home that is secret, and becomes a manifestation of who they are.” – David Sopel, Developmental Psychologist

The children have been exploring and developing imaginary play themes in the tents, tunnels and dens around the nursery school. This is an ongoing interest that is good for building P.S.E.D, communication and creative skills.
