Rie Nakajima at the Ikon Gallery

A group of our children and parents visited the Ikon Gallery this week to look at Rie Nakajima’s artwork. The artworks are based around a collection of diverse materials and the sounds they make when interacted with using electricity, or sometimes even the wind generated by moving past it.

The children were fascinated by the work and were lucky enough to move onto the Ikons canal boat be given the chance to explore the materials further whilst working with Rie, the artist.

Taking children on cultural trips gives them the chance to experience and respond to new environments and processes, such as getting on the bus, being in an art gallery, listening to new instructions and meeting new people. We saw children react in such positive an unexpected ways, surprisingly appropriate and intuitive points were raised and considered.
