Using Projects in Children’s Learning

Using Projects in Children’s Learning

When an interest runs throughout the nursery school we use it in every learning area. We find that this encourages children to interact more as they enjoy and are familiar with the theme. At the moment we have a focus on the Three Little Pigs story. This has been used in literacy time, read to the children and discussed in depth which has lead to role play and imaginary story telling. It has extended to a maths focus because of the counting, numbers and sequencing in the story and also used in creative exploration, with the children using the materials mentioned in the book. The levels of engagement have been high and practitioners have been using play support techniques to develop the learning taking place. Reflective practice and observations are essential in this way of working to ensure that the children are owning and leading their own learning.
